A little more information

So, here’s a little more detail about my treatment.

Shrinking the tumor first through chemotherapy is a newer type of treatment that has evolved over the last few years. It gives my surgeon the opportunity to do the best surgery possible because she’ll be able to get wide margins around the tumor, thereby reducing the chance that the cancer will return.

I am scheduled for 8 rounds of chemotherapy, and I’ll go in every 2 or 3 weeks. The normal rate would be every 2 weeks, but if my white blood cell count drops too low, then I’ll have to postpone treatment for a week until it comes back up again. During chemo, I will have my blood checked every week.

I spoke with the chemo nurse this morning, and she gave me a couple of tips regarding eating, work schedule, etc., so that was very helpful.

My mother is in town with us, and Dinah and Djuna have loved playing with her, so that’s been really nice.

I am scheduled to get a short haircut on Wednesday, so hopefully that will reduce the shock for the girls when my hair decides to part from my head. Dinah and Djuna actually just got new spring haircuts themselves, so I’ll have to post pictures on Flickr. They look very grown up!
