Calm before the storm?

One round of chemo down, seven to go! Now, I just have to get through the weekend.

I was in the doctor’s office receiving treatment today for about 2 hours. They gave me anti-nausea medication in the IV first, then they gave me two different chemo drugs. Basically, you just sit in a giant recliner with your arm propped up on a pillow, and they insert the IV and then just change the bags for the drugs. It’s a little uncomfortable, but not really bad at all. The nurses come in and out to check on things, and they are very happy to chat about other patients’ experiences and to tell you about what side effects you might expect, etc.

At the end of treatment, I felt a little tired and lightheaded, but the nurses said this was from the Benadryl they gave me to quell any potential itching reaction.

They sent me home with an anti-nausea medication. The nurses said that I might be feeling punky tomorrow and Saturday, but that I should feel fine by Sunday or Monday. Right now, I just feel a little tired.

I got my hair cut short last night to lessen the dramatic transition from full head of hair to baldness. I hope that this will help Dinah and Djuna adjust. It’s hard to say when my hair will fall out — it might be out by the next round of chemo, or it might take a round or two. Apparently, everyone reacts differently.

I was somewhat emotional before heading to chemo this morning, but my amazing husband Dwayne was there to help me steady my nerves, so off we went.

We’re on the way, at last.

  1. Diana – I’ve been thinking of you and praying that the chemo treats you well and doesn’t take too much out of you. Chal says the new anti-nausea drugs were much better this last time around for him. I will continue to pray for you, for Dwayne and for those perfectly gorgeous, oh-so-silly girly-girls!
